YUNYI orifice flow meter

Classic Heritage · Reliable Economy — The Enduring Foundation of Flow Measurement

YUNYI orifice plate flowmeter is a differential pressure flow measurement instrument based on Bernoulli’s equation and the principle of fluid continuity. Its core component is a throttling device (orifice plate) with a central opening installed in the pipeline. When fluid flows through the orifice plate, a static pressure difference (differential pressure value) is generated between its upstream and downstream sides. This differential pressure value is proportional to the square of the fluid’s velocity (i.e., flow rate). By measuring and calculating this differential pressure value using a matched differential pressure transmitter, pressure transmitter, and temperature sensor (for temperature and pressure compensation), the fluid flow rate can be precisely determined. As the oldest, most thoroughly researched, and most standardized flow meter, it has established an unshakable position in industrial measurement due to its simple structure, rugged durability, and low cost.

Product Advantages
The core value of the orifice plate flowmeter lies in its unparalleled simplicity, reliability, and extremely low acquisition cost, coupled with outstanding performance under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.
1. Simple Structure, Robust and Reliable: With no moving parts, it consists solely of an orifice plate, pressure tapping device, and flanges. It withstands high temperatures, high pressures, and strong vibrations, delivering exceptionally stable performance and an extremely long service life with virtually no maintenance required.
2. Exceptionally Cost-Effective: Initial purchase and installation costs are significantly lower than most other flowmeter types. Its economic advantage is particularly pronounced in large-diameter pipelines or budget-constrained projects.
3. Supported by International Standards, Mature Theory: Design, manufacturing, installation, and calculations strictly adhere to globally recognized standards like ISO 5167 and AGA-3. Calculation methods are transparent and publicly available, ensuring authoritative, reliable, and traceable measurement results.
4. Wide adaptability: Available in multiple materials (e.g., 304/316 stainless steel, Hastelloy, Monel), suitable for steam, gas, liquids, and other media, with exceptional performance in high-temperature, high-pressure, and harsh conditions.
5. Easy replacement and maintenance: Should process parameters change or the orifice plate wear, only a low-cost standard orifice plate needs replacement—not the entire metering system—resulting in minimal ongoing maintenance costs.
6. No Live Flow Calibration Required: Accuracy is guaranteed through strict adherence to international standards in design, manufacturing, and installation, eliminating costly live flow calibration expenses. This feature is particularly advantageous for large-diameter pipelines.

Core Application Areas
✅ Steam Flow Measurement: Boiler steam delivery, process steam metering, and energy management (requires temperature-pressure compensation).
✅ Natural Gas and Gas Flow: Suitable for measuring natural gas, air, coal gas, and other gases at small to medium flow rates (requires temperature-pressure compensation).
✅ High-Pressure, High-Temperature Liquids: Flow monitoring for demanding liquids such as power plant feedwater, high-temperature oils, and chemical feedstocks.
✅ Clean Liquid Flow: Process control and monitoring of clean liquids like water and solvents.
✅ As a Standard Orifice Device: Frequently used as a reference standard for online calibration of other flowmeters due to its mature theory and comprehensive international standards (e.g., ISO 5167, AGA Report No. 3).

Technical Specifications
1. Accuracy: ±1.0% to ±2.0% of rate (depending on design, installation, and accuracy of associated instruments)
2. Rangeability: Typically 3:1 (its primary limitation, but can be improved by using dual-range differential pressure transmitters)
3. Nominal Diameter (DN): DN50 to DN1000+ (virtually no upper limit, with significant advantages for large diameters)
4. Operating Pressure: Up to 42MPa or higher (ideal for high-pressure applications)
5. Operating Temperature: -200°C to +800°C (depending on material and seal selection)
6. Pressure tapping methods: Angle tapping (ring chamber, separate drilling), flange tapping, D-D/2 tapping (compliant with various standards)
7. Beta ratio (diameter ratio): Typically 0.2 to 0.75 (standard recommendation)
8. Supporting instruments: Must be paired with a differential pressure transmitter. When measuring gases/vapors, also requires a pressure transmitter and temperature sensor for temperature-pressure compensation.
