CNG Compressed Natural Gas Equipment

CNG skid-mounted equipment, commonly referred to as a “CNG skid station” or “CNG pressure reduction station,” is an integrated, modular system designed to store, reduce pressure, and regulate high-pressure compressed natural gas (typically 20-25MPa) into low-pressure natural gas (usually 0.1-0.4MPa) suitable for end-use appliances. All components—including gas cylinder banks, pressure regulation systems, metering systems, and control systems—are fixed to a common base (skid block). This design offers flexible mobility, rapid installation, minimal footprint, and low investment costs.

Core Functions
1. Gas Storage Function: Stores compressed natural gas (CNG) from transport tankers via a single or multiple high-pressure cylinders (e.g., small cylinder banks or tube bundle containers), serving as a buffer to stabilize gas supply.
2. Pressure Reduction and Regulation: This is the core function. Through multi-stage (typically two-stage) pressure regulation equipment, the high-pressure natural gas entering at 20-25 MPa is progressively and stably reduced to the outlet pressure required by the pipeline network or end-users.
3. Heating Function: During pressure reduction, natural gas undergoes a sharp temperature drop due to the throttling effect (Joule-Thomson effect), which may freeze equipment or form natural gas hydrates. Therefore, heaters (water bath or electric) are typically integrated to preheat the gas.
4. Metering Function: Integrated flow meters precisely measure the regulated natural gas for trade settlement or internal auditing.
5. Safety Control and Monitoring:
✦ Emergency Shutdown (ESD): Rapidly cuts off the gas supply upon detecting hazards like leaks, overpressure, or fire.
✦ Safety Venting: Excess gas is safely discharged to designated areas via safety valves or vent valves when pressure exceeds preset thresholds.
✦ Sequential Control Panel: Optimizes the utilization of multiple cylinder banks by prioritizing filling and usage, enhancing efficiency and gas utilization rates.
✦ Real-Time Monitoring: PLC systems provide 24/7 monitoring and alarm functions for parameters including pressure, temperature, flow rate, and leakage.
